What to Do During the United States' Worst & Most Costly National Disaster in History
ICYMI ₊♡₊˚ 🍒・₊✧ ₊
Hello HSR <3
Not the first email back we were expecting but that’s life. It’s unpredictable.
♡ A Hurricane of Fire: There are no words to describe being in the middle of what they are now calling “The Worst and Costliest Disaster in US History; a literal hurricane of fire and watching your city burn to the ground. With damages already at $135 Billion and possibly climbing to $150 Billion, the US has never seen anything like this.
Over the last few days, I’ve learnt a lot about consumer behavior, my own values, and the words that will carry me through 2025 that can be summarized into 8 main points. If you want to go deeper, I’m recording a podcast episode tomorrow on what each of these mean in practice - in crisis, in business and in life.
♡ emotions are my superpower
♡ when you’re unsure what to do, start small
♡ effort is sexy
♡ haters gon hate, so find the courage to be disliked
♡ don’t be the first, second one in
♡ our tribes, not our things make us who we are
♡ there is no “right thing” to say or do, just do and then evolve
♡ think for yourself, think critically
♡ How HSR is Supporting Small & Locally: We opened the HSR house to four students who’ve lost everything in the fires. If brands are looking to help, we’re accepting NEW clothing, shoes, and essentials for them. (Please no skincare or makeup—we’ve got that covered!) Reach out directly if you’d like to contribute. We’re also buying thousands of dollars worth of Chomps to bring to our first responders for their requested protein-packed snacks. Please venmo @hotsmartrich if you’d like to contribute by tonight! x
♡ Paris Hilton: Forever the trendsetter, Paris Hilton did not wait to be the first, second one in to help as both a human and someone with a massive audience and reach. Paris was one of the first celebrities mobilizing awareness, resources and a massive donation campaign. Paris’ campaign will match the first $100,000 of her 11:11 fundraiser and personally contribute $100,000 directly to her 11:11 nonprofit to support. PS she organized all this while her Malibu house burnt to the ground. Please join her in donating here (must open on IG app!)
♡ 800 Incarcerated Individuals are Fighting The LA Fires for $5.80-$10.24 per day. Did you know that nearly 30% of the firefighters battling California’s wildfires are incarcerated individuals risking their lives for $5.80-$10.24 per day? Read more about it here or watch this video to meet some of our incarcerated individuals helping save our lives and properties.
♡ Join Us for HSR x Defy Ventures Business Coaching Day: Please make a difference with me for these types of individuals. Less than 5 spots remain for our exclusive coaching day on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the CA State Prison, Los Angeles County. Spend the day mentoring Defy’s Entrepreneurs in Training (EITs)—individuals rewriting their stories and breaking barriers. The sign-up deadline is TONIGHT AT 11:59PT. All paperwork must be completed to secure your spot. We’re also seeking in-kind donations like snacks, food, and water. Email Katie at [email protected] to contribute!

✨ Impactful Advice on How to Show Up
I found this post to be one of the most impactful this week—it beautifully outlines how to show up for those who’ve lost everything from someone who has. I also loved this post from Lindsey Carter, SET Active’s CEO, on what life will look like now and how to continue to be there.
✨ Where to Donate:
In the wake of the devastating wildfires, many of us are wondering how we can make a difference. Here’s how you can help, donate, and support those who’ve lost everything.
✨ Mental Health Resources:
Mental Health Coalition: thementalhealthcoalition.org
✨ Animal Care Resources:
Agoura Animal Care Center: 29525 Agoura Rd, Agoura Hills, CA 91301
Pierce College Large Animal Shelter: 6201 Winnetka Ave, Woodland Hills, CA 91367
✨ More Ways to Support the Effort:
The Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation is actively seeking donations to equip firefighters battling wildfires with critical items like emergency fire shelters, hydration backpacks, and brush tools. You can support their efforts directly here.
For additional information and updates, check out this thoughtful post by the LA Times.
Let’s continue to come together as a community and lend our strength to those in need.
TYSM, I♡U!!!!
