It's a full time job to believe in yourself with no days off
Time for my favorite part of the week, ICYMI!!!
ICYMI ââĄâË đă»â⧠â
⥠This Weekâs Mantra: An athlete wonât judge you for your first workout. A millionaire wonât judge you for starting a business. An author wonât judge you for writing the first page of your book. Itâs always the people going nowhere that have something to say.
⥠This Weekâs Thoughts: Itâs a full time job to believe in yourself with no days off.
⥠This Weekâs Podcast: As today marks the official end to the 2024 Olympics, this is the podcast you should listen to. Djokovic describes everything from his mindset, his beginnings, and his family support system that has led him to finally âhave it allâ as it relates to career Grand Slams.
⥠In the HSR Group Chat: Womenâs Health. We sent this article back and forth a few times after the CDC finally released updated guidelines on IUD insertion after IUD insertion pain went viral. Our MBA intern was on a 16-girl bachelorette party and, with a quick poll, reported back that 9 have IUDs, 7 of whom said that the insertion was the worst pain theyâve ever been in. That plus the recent unicorn valuation of Flo Fertility, gives me a feeling that womenâs health is going to start to be taken seriously by male VCâs⊠And if you want a laugh, Jimmy Kimmel put together a pretty funny street interview series that stopped random men on the street to ask questions about basic female anatomy. I laughed but then remember itâs only been 21 years since women were even required in U.S. clinical research⊠In other amazing womenâs health news, teen girls say theyâre feeling less sadness and despair, as reported by the CDC and it makes me more inclined to talk openly about my anxiety.
⥠Life Updates: Kind of like the stock market last week which saw its best and worst day of 2024 or Brooke Schofieldâs rising popularity and public decline over the last month, my week felt similar. Lucky #3 woke up to many voice notes of tears, joy, excitement, and itâs been a rollercoaster of a week. Itâs a full-time job to believe in yourself with no days off, but itâs also been a good reminder that itâs the people you surround yourself with that can make or break what you have to handle in life.
⥠On Taking a 2-Week Break: Katie and I both were reminded this week of the Ferris Bueller quote, âLife moves pretty fast. If you donât stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.â We LOVE (live for) HSRâs ICYMI weekly but we need a two-week break before the fall gets crazy. Iâm about to go meet Lucky #3âs family and heâs going to meet mine in Muskoka over that period of time, and HSR fall is looking VERY busy so there will be lots to update you on when weâre back⊠Weâre bringing a ton of IRL events back across cities, launching new initiatives (yes, including the podcast) and bringing on a team to support us, so for the next 2 Sundays, please donât miss us too much and weâll be back in your inbox September 1!
This Weekâs Mood Board
⥠the roles that are open with HSR! âĄ
Our Columbia MBA Summer Intern, Jaclyn Kolbert (who we are obsessed with), had her last day on Friday, and we were reminded of how important it is to have great people to build HSR alongside (plus she enjoyed it so much that sheâs coming back for her Fall MBA internship and we feel SO blessed and already canât waitâŠ!!) BUT weâre also hiring a few more intern roles, so if the below sounds like you or you feel like youâre perfect for the JD, please apply đ
For any of these roles, weâre looking for someone chronically online who is excited about the opportunity to create business-focused content from the cultural zeitgeist. Itâs a fit if youâre obsessed with Forerunner Ventures, Emily Weiss, the business of Summer Fridays, and you have your finger on the pulse what the next cool brand is. You like reading Us weekly and BoF just as much as Morning Brew and listening to Scott Galloway.

Dear Aspiring EntrepreneursâŠ
Weâre about to save you time and MONEY to start the business youâve always dreamed ofâŠ
Shopify just hit $1 Trillion in GMV, which means that small and e-commerce businesses are growing. This week I listened to the Diary of a CEO podcast where Harley Finkelstein, the CEO of Shopify, shared a fascinating fact. Most people who sign up for Shopify take an average of 4 WEEKS before their storefront is up and running. Why? Because they havenât incorporated their business yet, and itâs so time-consuming and difficult to understand what to do so.
Most early-stage entrepreneurs (including content creators) arenât aware that they need to have a legally registered business entity. Forming an LLC isnât just for the business; itâs crucial for the entrepreneur to ensure that theyâre protected and that your personal assets are shielded from business debts and lawsuits (among other things!).
Weâre friends with the Doola CEO, Arjun Mahadevan, (whoâs an avid reader of HSR) and we wanted to do something to make it easier to get started on your dream business, especially as we head into fall and weâre programmed to think âback to schoolâ. Weâve used and recommend Doola to get an LLC incorporated and keep it compliant. So for the next 60 days, when you upgrade to an annual subscription to ICYMI, youâll not only get all of our tips and tools to help you grow and scale as an entrepreneur, but Doola will incorporate your LLC for free (a $297 value) and support you during the formation process. If youâre already using Doola, you can still claim the $297 as a discount on bookkeeping and tax filing services! Youâll receive an email from us with your unique code for Doola when youâve upgraded!
TYSM, IâĄU!!!!
